The Ministry of Defence has selected Team Resolute, comprising Harland & Wolff, Navantia UK and BMT, to build support ships for the Royal Navy with a £1.6 billion contract. Team Resolute has been appointed to deliver three crucial support ships to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), where such vessels will provide munitions, stores and provisions to the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers, destroyers and frigates deployed at sea. This contract will come with investment in shipyard infrastructure to support the British shipbuilding sector, the investment will create one of the most advanced yards in the UK, significant for future export and domestic shipbuilding and offshore opportunities. Jon Purpose:

The HVAC&R, CBRN, and Fire detection & extinguishing systems manager will play a fundamental role in the delivery of newly constructed Fleet Solid Support Ships, ensuring that they are fully operational, safe, and compliant with all relevant regulations and standards before they are delivered to UK MOD and accepted into service.

The Role:

  • Prepare, maintain, and update the commissioning schedules of the systems and subsystems packages assigned to them, such as but not limited to CBRN, HVAC&R, Fire detection and extinguishing systems.
  • Define the technical support that will be required of the vendors during the commissioning activities of the systems and subsystems they are assigned.
  • Revise and validate the FAT procedures received from the equipment vendors.
  • Attend the FATs of equipment included within the system and subsystem packages they have been assigned.
  • Review the completed FAT reports received from the vendors.

About You:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field is typically required.
  • Experience: Significant experience in shipbuilding, marine engineering, or ship commissioning roles is essential. Prior experience in managing complex commissioning projects is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ship systems, machinery, and equipment is essential. Familiarity with international maritime regulations and classification society rules is preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities to manage a diverse team of professionals and subcontractors effectively.
