Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries has secured an internationally recognised health and safety management accreditation, the OHSAS 18001, one of Northern Ireland’s first companies to do so.
The certificate covers a range of specialist activities and facilities provided for a range of sectors from design, procurement and manufacturing to shipbuilding, offshore oil and gas and renewable energy.
Alan Haley, Harland and Wolff’s Director of Engineering says the accreditation adds significantly to the Belfast yard’s competitivity.
“Globally recognised qualifications, certificates and approvals are particularly difficult to secure and require world class standards among personnel and facilities,” says Mr Haley.
“Having the OHSAS 18001 on our list of qualifications proves that we are as expert as any world class competitor.”
Harland and Wolff has developed its offshore energy activities particularly in the fields of wind and tide generation technologies. The yard recently completed its third offshore wind farm consisting of 60 turbines each capable of generating 3.5mW per hour.
