On Saturday 28 August, we were delighted to support and take part in Stornoway Port’s Harbour Open Day – in celebration of Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters.
As a key member of the community, it was a pleasure to be in attendance alongside our newest apprentices.
Stationed at the Stornoway Port Stall, we were on hand to give the local community an introduction to the history and heritage of Harland & Wolff as well as answer any questions about our upcoming projects and new apprenticeship scheme. As part of the celebration, we were also excited to raffle off a unique Harland & Wolff goody bag worth £300 – with all proceed going towards the Seafarers Charity.
We’re now proud to announce that through our raffle, we raised an impressive £213!
Alongside the stall, our apprentices also made waves in the main event of the day – the raft race. Giving valiant effort, we placed third!
Albert Allan, General Manager of Harland & Wolff (Arnish) commented: “A great opportunity to meet with the local community and to participate in the day’s activities, it was an honour to attend this year’s Stornoway Port Harbour Day. Taking part in the raft race, our apprentices did an excellent job showing their raft building/sailing skills whilst our raffle in aid of the Seafarers charity raised over £200. We’re looking forward to next year’s event already!”
