Harland & Wolff is proud to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art welding robot from Danish company, Inrotech in its iconic Belfast shipyard.

The Inrotech-MicroTwin is a compact and lightweight gantry featuring two small robots, welding machines and a scanning system for identifying stiffeners on panels. Specifically developed for the automated welding of micro/mini panels, sub-assemblies, T-beams and small-parts, the robot is also specifically designed for the welding of micro panels in the shipbuilding industry.

Features include:

  • 5-metre gantry width with twin production areas each 12.5-meter L x 4.5-meter W (Welding takes place in one zone, while the other is used for fitting or finishing)
  • Typical panel size (frigate) 6-meter L x 3.5-meter W. Max. height 0.75mtr
  • Twin robotic welding arms for simultaneous welding when welding multiple profile stiffeners in X or Y direction
  • Automatic workpiece scanning
  • Touch screen interface

“The purchase and installation of the new micro-panel robotic welder is of huge importance to Harland & Wolff, not only does it demonstrate our commitment to long term investment in the yard but allows for greater steel throughput within our fabrication shops.” - Steven Wright, Yard Manager at Harland & Wolff (Belfast)
