Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Engineering we are looking to recruit an E&I Systems Engineer to join our team in Belfast.  The purpose of the role will be to provide design information, documents and drawings for electrical and instrumentation in accordance with the technical specification, rules and regulations and to quality standards as directed by the Head of Engineering or Engineering Manager. To specify and requisition equipment and components as required.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Undertake P&ID development
  • Manage close interface with system design engineers
  • Production of Classification Society approved drawings/data
  • Development of production information (wiring diagrams, cable schedule, I/O list)
  • Review and advise on Vendor specifications and documents
  • Develop Technical purchase Specifications for equipment and materials
  • Prepare estimates of material quantities
  • Provide design information and drawings to a schedule of work assigned by Head of Engineering / Engineering Manager
  • Provide guidance on cable routing and prepare drawings as necessary
  • Monitor accuracy of work produced and to ensure compliance with standards, rules and regulations and the company’s quality system
  • Monitor manhour spend on assigned tasks compared to budget
  • Engage with internal departments and with customer representatives, suppliers and Certifying Authority as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of systems, procedures and processes
  • Participation in site survey teams, including vessel machinery condition surveys, equipment tests and other site activities
  • Ensure that works carried out on board vessels are carried out to best industry and statutory standards in a safe and cost-effective manner and according to drawings and specifications
  • Assist the Sales /Bid / Commercial teams in preparation of any bid documents and proposals that require technical input and/or cost estimates
  • Act as a Mentor to junior engineers, graduate trainees and internship students
  • Liaise with external and internal customers, regulatory bodies and suppliers

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrable experience of involvement in third party Design Review processes.
  • A solid marine systems background with 15+ years professional experience including the ability to understand clients’ requirements, formulate the methods to be adopted in determining an optimum solution and implementation in line with the quality standards and time/budget constraints.
  • Proficient in application and use of specialist software for flow analysis, Pipeflow or similar
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Project, Word
  • Proficient in use of Aveva Marine “Drafting” software or other general drafting tool such as AutoCAD
  • Experience of conceptual merchant ship design, including layout and budget estimation;
  • Implementation of Classification Society and IMO rules and regulations
  • Demonstrable experience of involvement in third party Design Review processes.

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrable leadership experience in offshore / new build orientated projects including management of sub-contract design agency staff
  • Proficient in use of Aveva Marine/PDMS 3D CAD modelling software
  • Time served in a shipyard or similar field activity where marine design was undertaken
  • Military / naval / Offshore project experience
  • Operational or field experience
