Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Engineering we are looking to recruit a Discipline Engineer to join our team in Belfast.  The purpose of the role will be to produce engineering information and drawings in accordance with the required specification. To undertake project work and oversee technical performance, including engineering, and modelling of structures and components to provide production information in support of the company’s project execution targets across Cruise & Ferry, Commercial Marine, Defence, Renewables and Oil & Gas markets

Role and Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering information to schedule as defined by lead discipline engineer or project engineer/manager
  • Ensure information is produced accurately and is compliant with rules, regulations and to the company Quality Management System
  • Develop structural or outfit solutions as appropriate to project standards
  • Create CAD/CAM model from design drawings and supplier information
  • Prepare 2D drawings and sketches as necessary
  • Engage with lead discipline and other discipline engineers to ensure CAD model is complete, accurate and clash free, assist other disciplines as necessary
  • Engage with customers, other internal department customers, regulatory bodies, and suppliers
  • Liaise directly with production management, supervision, and operators
  • Prepare ‘as fitted’ sketches and amendment drawings
  • Contribute to the continuous improvements processes in own discipline
  • Review, technically assess and comment upon design proposals received from third parties, principally producibility
  • Participate as necessary in design review meetings to assure that technical objectives are being achieved
  • Assist the Sales /Bid / Commercial teams in preparation of any bid documents and proposals that require technical input and/or cost estimates
  • Act as a Mentor to junior engineers, graduate trainees and internship students
  • Liaise with external and internal customers, regulatory bodies and suppliers
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities & processes throughout the Belfast site

Essential Criteria

  • A solid marine or offshore background in ship or module modelling, with 10+ years professional experience including the ability to understand clients’ requirements, formulate the methods to be adopted in determining an optimum solution and implementation in line with the quality standards and time/budget constraints.
  • Proficient in application and use of Aveva Marine / E3D or similar modelling and drafting systems
  • Proficient in other general drafting software such as AutoCAD
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Project, Word
  • Knowledge of Classification Society and IMO rules and regulations

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrable leadership experience in offshore / new build orientated projects including management of sub-contract design agency staff
  • Proficient in use of Aveva Marine/PDMS 3D CAD modelling software
  • Time served in a shipyard or similar field activity where discipline related design was undertaken
  • Military / naval / Offshore project experience
