The Apprenticeship Supervisor and Manager

Job purpose:

Conduct a wide range of marine electrical work in order to support production at Harland & Wolff.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, and other relevant personnel, to ensure
    that customer and business requirements are met.
  • Develop the ability to maintain their own safety and that of others at work, ensuring a safe working environment and
    prevention of damage to property and the wider environment.
  • Learn how to plan, set up, and produce marine electrical and electronic systems including designing solutions to meet
    vessel performance and customer requirements, following approved work methods using marin e electrical drawings,
    technical specifications and electrical formulae and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Learn how to plan, organise and monitor wiring support systems (for example, conduit, trays, trunking, bulkhead
    penetration and glands).
  • Learn how to install cable runs in boats correctly in accordance with relevant specifications and industry standards.
  • Learn how to install electrical and electronic system assemblies and sub-assemblies on boats correctly in accordance
    with required specification, industry standards and to the customer’s satisfaction.
  • Learn how to install Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems and networking and other relevant systems in
    accordance with required specification and industry standards.
  • Develop the ability to support the commission of electrical and electronic systems, tests and sea trials.
  • Learn how to maintain, fault find, and diagnose issues with electrical and electronic systems and equipment on boats.
  • Develop the ability to modify, add, and upgrade electrical and electronic circuits in boats.
  • Learn how to conduct routine marine electrical and electronic servicing.
  • Develop the ability to monitor marine batteries, charging and ancillary alternating current (ac) or direct current (dc) supply
    charging systems.
  • Seek opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of marine electrical and electronic work operations, where relevant.
  • Learn how to restore work area and return tools, and unused materials and equipment to a safe and reliable condition,
    to prescribed standards of cleanliness on completion of marine electrical and electronic work operations.
  • Complete documentation at the relevant stages of the marine electrical and electronic work operations in accordance
    with organisational policy, procedures and any other relevant information and guidance.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold a minimum a of GCSE grade C/4, National 5 (or Equivalent) in Mathematics, English and a Science
  • Hold a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations or a relevant field.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to use your own initiative and a strong drive to succeed are all essential.
  • Enthusiasm and determination to learn.
  • Self-starter and motivated person.
  • Ability to get on with colleagues and customers.
  • Commitment to upholding high health and safety standards.
  • Responsibility, reliability and dedication.
