Reports to: Project Quality Manager / Senior Projects QA-QC Engineer
Job Purpose: To support operational Projects, meet all Quality Control and Specification requirements through regular in process monitoring, inspection, and reporting of weld quality performance. The development of Project-specific inspection trackers and completion of inspection records for client sign off.
Ensuring the welds are performed by qualified welders to the approved WPS in accordance with the Project Quality Plan and ITP, verifying that all finished welding and fabrication complies with the contract specifications and relevant quality standards.
The Role
- Liaison with the Engineering and Production personnel, Clients’ Inspectors, other discipline inspectors and, when appropriate, the Certifying Authority, Classification Society and / or Independent Verification Body.
- Supporting the development of the Project Inspection & test plan and setting up the necessary level of weld history / traceability in line with the project specification / international standards. Supporting the RWC on any qualification of new weld procedures and welders.
- Completion of Inspection tasks before welding as per section 14.2 within ISO3834 part 2 including assessment of project specific weld procedures, welder qualification, material / consumable certification, and joint fit-up.
- Completion of Inspection tasks during welding as per section 14.3 within ISO3834 part 2 including weld audits, consumable control, and any in process weld sequencing / dimensional control.
- Completion of Inspection tasks after welding as per section 14.4 & 14.5 within ISO3834 part 2 including visual inspection, Non-Destructive Testing, final dimensional control updating / maintaining the inspection & Test status of the project in line with the prescribed NDT test regime
About you
- Valid Weld Inspector level II qualification CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent (essential)
- Heavy Fabrication experience (essential)
- NDT knowledge (essential)
- Shipbuilding Fabrication experience (advantageous)
- Dimensional control total station experience (advantageous)
- Sound literary skills & knowledge
