Job purpose
To lead the Estimating function across Harland & Wolff’s five markets and four service sites in order to build and drive a team capable of delivering high-value and strategically important tenders.
Sat within the newly formed Strategic Bids Management Team, this role will drive consistency in approach, toolsets and execution of the estimating process, working with senior stakeholders from across the business to maintain accuracy and relevance.
Within the sales process, there is a need to make sure the department has a full understanding of operational bottlenecks that can affect pricing, options that can be address by the Harland & Wolff supply chain and lead a function that can adapt to these challenges and deliver for clients.
The Role
- Support the candidate selection and interview process for new Estimators across all H& W markets.
- Oversee the development of Estimators within the team regarding induction, cross training (of different H&W functions) and the professional development of Estimators at different stages of their career.
- Interface in to the five H&W markets to ensure valid and up to date estimation and stakeholder management; pipeline management, supply chain pricing and ensuring commercial compliance.
- Translate aspects of the statement of customer requirements into a rigorous and robust cost estimate;
- Liaise and co-ordinate estimating activities within the H&W matrix-management company construct, i.e., business functions and our Delivery Centres, in the compilation of high-value estimates and bid packages;
- Develop standard cost baseline for the use of operational assets and resources;
- Ensure that customers contractual requirements, terms and conditions and standards are taken into account as appropriate in the preparation of estimates and bid packages;

- Proven people management skills with experience recruiting, assembling and managing team skillset
- Annually, deliver input to the wider Business Plan with defined KPIs and targets.
- Collaborate with sales, bid and operational teams to deliver identified priorities.
