The Ministry of Defence has selected Team Resolute, comprising Harland & Wolff, Navantia UK and BMT, to build support ships for the Royal Navy with a £1.6 billion contract. Team Resolute has been appointed to deliver three crucial support ships to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), where such vessels will provide munitions, stores and provisions to the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers, destroyers and frigates deployed at sea. Job Purpose: H&W Electrical Gen & Distribution system engineer will play a fundamental role in the delivery of newly constructed Fleet Solid Support Ships, ensuring that they are fully operational, safe, and compliant with all relevant regulations and standards before they are delivered to UK MOD and accepted into service. This critical position involves close collaboration with various departments, stakeholders, and subcontractors to ensure the successful completion and delivery of Electrical Gen & Distribution systems.

The Role:

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced engineer with an expertise in complex systems build, integration, verification, validation, and acceptance of H&W Electrical Gen & Distribution system.
  • Understand the system development lifecycle from the requirement definition through to acceptance.
  • Support the dept. manager to preparation, maintain, and update the commissioning schedules of the systems and subsystems packages assigned to them.
  • Work with the FSS engineering group in the drafting and approval of the HAT and SAT procedures.
  • Review the mechanical and electrical completion documentation presented as part of the official proposals for handover of their assigned systems and subsystems to the commissioning phase.
  • Analyse and evaluate the results of the commissioning activities.

About You:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field is typically required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline can be advantageous.
  • Experience: Significant experience in shipbuilding, marine engineering, or ship commissioning roles is essential. Prior experience in managing complex commissioning projects is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ship systems, machinery, and equipment is essential. Familiarity with international maritime regulations and classification society rules is preferred.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure all commissioning processes are conducted accurately and in compliance with standards.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adjust plans as needed to accommodate changes in project requirements.
