World’s Biggest Car & Passenger Ferry Returns to Harland and Wolff

Wednesday 27 December 2006

The Ulysses’ impressive dimensions dwarf most other passenger ferry vessels. With a 50,938 gross registered tonnage it can carry up to 1,850 passengers and 1,342 cars. At over 200 metres in length the ship can travel at speeds of 22 knots (about 26 mph).
David McVeigh of Harland and Wolff says the yard is always happy to see its old customers once more.
“2006 has been a wonderfully busy year for us and we are delighted to kick off 2007 with the Irish Ferries contract,” he says.
“Our diversification strategy means that while we are very active in the ship building industry we are also expanding our design engineering and heavy manufacturing work and we look forward to making some significant new contract announcements shortly after the completion of the Irish Ferries work,” he says.
